★ What is acrylic? Acrylic is a form of plastic that comes in a variety of colors and transparencies. Acrylic can go by a lot of names like plexi, ABS, and more!
★ How do you make your acrylic? All of my acrylic is designed and handmade by me! I make the vectors in illustrator, then I import the lines into my laser and cut the colors individually. After that I assemble all of the pieces by hand, usually onto a solid backing. I'll then clean and polish the piece, attach it to what you selected, and send it to you!
★ How do you care for acrylic? Simply, you shouldn't really need to wash it. You can wipe off smudges and things with a microfiber cloth if you'd like! Please do not use liquid cleaners on them, and do not submerge or come in contact with large amounts of water with the piece (ie do not wear them in the shower, pool, etc). My acrylics are not annealed (a process of heating and lowering the temperature very slowly) and can cause fissures (known as crazing) if exposed to liquids of any kind. There is one liquid cleaner that works well called Novus 1 that you can try, but make sure to spray it onto the microfiber cloth and then clean the piece rather than spraying it directly onto the surface.
★ Is acrylic fragile? It can be! I try to make my pieces as sturdy as possible by maintaining certain widths throughout the design. However, pieces can break with rough wear. There shouldn't be any issue with necklaces and earrings as they don't come in contact with a lot of other things, but if you do buy a keychain version be aware that a lot of contact with other pieces can eventually cause the acrylic to break.
★ If acrylic is fragile, why do you make it? Two reasons. One, I think acrylic is beautiful! Two, acrylic is actually really sturdy. A long time ago I was warned to not offer keychains at all on my acrylic because people generally aren't wary of keychains and put them in the position to get damaged accidentally. But after getting so many emails about wanting keychains I just gave in, but I hope you will be careful with them!
★ What will make my acrylic last longer? Maintenance is key! Wearing it as a necklace instead of having it as keychain is always better for longevity as necklaces typically stay in a safer place on you instead of a keychain on your keys or bag. Once you're done wearing the piece, wiping off any oils and debris with a microfiber/glasses lens wipe and then storing in a low humidity location like a jewelry box is best!
